Ken Langone PhilanthropyThe Home Depot Founder, Kenneth Langone, is much known for his expertise as a businessman, but the New York native is much more than that. Since his career as a businessman man took flight in the early 1960s Langone has made it a point to devote a good portion of his wealth towards philanthropic deeds. He has been a member of numerous charitable and non-profit boards including: the Cancer Research Fund of Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Foundation, the New York Philharmonic, the Children's Oncology Society (Ronald McDonald House), and the Robin Hood Foundation. Home Depot Founder Kenneth Langone also has a charity of his own: Ken's Kids is a highly successful non-profit organization that assists mentally and physically disabled young adults in their pursuits of dignity and independence with jobs at Home Depot. Mr. Kenneth Langone started Ken's Kids in Philadelphia in 1998 and the group has found jobs for 77 young adults since that time. Ken's Kids works with parents, middle management and Home Depot co-workers to help the young adults learn to live a more independent lifestyle and develop decision making skills to further enhance that independence. Ken's Kids has received financial assistance in the form of grants from Home Depot including a $250,000 grant for upcoming work in New York. As a businessman Ken Langone has made a fortune and as a philanthropist he has used his profits to help out and change lives around the world. |
